Often times I have found myself wondering just how old the various artists I listen to are these days, so I figured perhaps others have the same curiosity. So in honor of it being Zooey Deschanel’s 30th birthday tomorrow, I have compiled a list of current ages/birthdays of some of the most prominent indie humans. I have also arranged these in order from youngest to oldest. As a side note: some of these people are definitely not indie anymore, such as Ben Gibbard and Thom Yorke, but I felt like their ages/birthdays would still be of interest to the two readers who will read this post. Notable Quotes: Rather than explore the causes of my problems, I’m much more interested in suffocating them under a blanket of complex chemicals. So it’s a kind of a no-win situation for them. If they don’t encourage me, I think it’s because they think I’m a failure. If they do encourage me I think it’s because they think I’m a failure. In the last few years I’ve felt less and less like an artist and more and more like a hustler. Now, I like hustlers. I admire their wide-brimmed hats and coats with large lapels, but I don’t know that I want to actually be one. Fortunately, when you’ve only ever been a C-Lister, you don’t feel like you’re missing that much when you’re treated like a D-Lister. So thank God for small favors.Anyway, the point is that it’s hard out here for a pimp. And it’s even harder when the ass you’re pimping is your own. This is terrible. First Sufjan, and now Michael Ian Black! All of the best people in the world are going through depression. If they can’t be happy, what hope do all of us lesser-folks have? I’m just kidding, we have a lot of hope, but this is very very unfortunate. Via. October 14, 2009
Sufjan Stevens was recently interviewed by VishKhanna.com and revealed that although the rumors are not true that he will be retireing, he does have a certain animosity towards music and what seems like life in general at the moment. Some quotes: - “What’s the point of making music anymore? I feel that the album no longer has a stronghold or has any real bearing anymore.” - “…me versus my work, y’know? And I don’t think I can win; I feel like it’s a losing battle…” - “But for myself, I definitely feel a kind of claustrophobia because of the excess in our culture and the availability of so much.” Is Sufjan now playing the role of Conor Oberst?
