Dirty Projectors Release "Ascending Melody" For Free

The Dirty Projectors have released a couple songs that didn’t quite make the final cut of their last album, Bitte Orca. If you go to their website, you can download the songs for free and buy a physical copy of the songs.

Also, whoever does the artwork for their albums and what not, A+ to you!

Solange Knowles Continues to Up Her Indie Cred

So it looks like Solange Knowles, she who introduced Jay-Z and big sis Beyonce to Grizzly Bear and covered Dirty Projectors’ “Stillness Is the Move” earlier this year, will be appearing on Of Montreal’s next album (along with the epically brilliant Janelle Monae).  Huzzah I say! Sounds like a great collabo (as we say in “the Biz”… I think… I wouldn’t know…)

Also Kevin Barnes is apparently writing songs for Beyonce, who cites the band as possible inspiration for her next album.

Worlds are colliding my friends.

Pitchfork has all the deats (as we say in “the Biz”… I think… I wouldn’t know…)  here.

Mp3 of Dave Longstreth's Old Ironic Boy Band Surfaces

Back when Dave Longstreth (frontman of Dirty Projectors) was around the age of, in his words, “17 or something,” he wrote a parody song that he envisioned a boy band from the era may sing. Read Dave’s clarification of the project, entitled Chances R, he gave to Stereogum and the listen to the mp3 after the break… Continue reading…

Aesthetic Octopus’ Best of 2009 Choices! Extravaganza.

Our first ever year end list! Hooray! We made it all the way to the end of our first year (I am saying this even though we only started a matter of months ago!) of blogging and radioing. Yes. True. Statements of congratulation all around, for us.

Anyways, as we are new at this and still extremely incompetent in all fields (creativity, writing ability, creative writing ability) we are going to keep it simple. Below we will list each of our favorite three albums, our favorite television show, and our favorite lady all from the last year with no explanation at all. This is probably for the best anyways, as no one really reads the reasonings so why spend time writing them? All the readers are all like, “The Pitchforked gave this band a 9.2, alright they good.” That is what they are definitely like.

So here they are… Continue reading…
