The next single from Vampire Weekend’s Contrawill be Giving Up The Gun. The single has a truly inspired video to go with it, featuring a plethora of household names, such as Jake Gyllenhaal and Joe Jonas, in a game of tennis. The combination of stars seems a little strange, but makes for very entertaining viewing as you see each and every one of them cleaned up by a very energetic redhead.
The song itself is definitely suited to its partnering video, due to its use of slamming percussion sections, occasional smattering of glockenspiel and brilliant lyrical input. The song is one of the standout tracks from Contra, and definitely deserves to have such a brilliant, if strange, video.
After forming officially in December 2007, Mumford and Sons have taken audiences everywhere by storm. Their heart-clenching melodies and passionate live performances have set them in good stead for years to come, and personally, they really do deserve everything they’re getting at the moment.
The boys recently toured in India with, partner in crime, Laura Marling, and recorded an excellent video for future single, “The Cave” while they were at it. Continue reading…
The realse date of Laura Marling’s second album, I Speak Because I Can is getting nearer by the the second. Unsurprisngly, I am on tenterhooks. Sure, Marling has played many of the songs from the album live already, but she has already proved that there is a noticeable difference between this and her studio work.
The video for Devil’s Spoke, the first single of the album, was recently released onto the internet and shows striking images of landscapes and fire that partner with the song perfectly.
Devil’s Spoke is a far cry from Marling’s earlier album, Alas, I Cannot Swim. The song’s bold as brass atmosphere lends itself to the thundering acculmination of guitars, drums and, most importantly, Marling’s determined and gritty vocals. The lines “Eye to Eye, Nose to Nose/Ripping off each other’s clothes in a most peculiar way” are amongst the most spine-tingling of the song. This is most certainly the beginning of Laura Marling proving to any naysayers that she is no one trick pony.

OMG I heart this with all my soulz (I have multiple soulz, probs).
Anyways, Beach House is the latest “thing” to get me kind of depressed about the world and what not. I’m starting to really have trouble getting over the fact that a video such as this can have such a moving effect on me while the majority of other similar economic status humans* could care less about this and probably disregard it as rubbish. Is Beach House actually terrible? Should I be getting more into Fergie? Does Victoria Legrand actually have no attractive qualities about her and should be ignored?
In any case, if you want to purchase the worst album of 2k10, Teen Dream is out tomorrow.
*Obviously I am not depressed that the poor and oppressed of places such as Haiti could care less about Beach House. By no means do think they have much much more important things to worry about than whether Teen Dream will be the best album of 2k10.
